Ideal Protein and Metabolic Syndrome
Metabolic syndrome is a combination of risk factors that eventually lead to cardiovascular disease, stroke (increased risk for clotting), and diabetes.
Risk factors include:
- Insulin Resistance
- Hypertension (high blood pressure)
- Abnormal Cholesterol
- High Triglycerides
- Excess Fat around the midsection
Studies show that a ketogenic diet may reverse metabolic syndrome.
Oncologists seem to agree that being overweight and hyperinsulinemic/insulin resistant are major risk factors for multiple types of cancer. They have also pointed out that cancer cells are glucose dependent and can’t use ketone bodies as a fuel source. Plus insulin is a very anabolic hormone (a growth factor). So for all these reasons they like the Ideal Protein approach to weight loss.
In the meantime we still suggest women with a history cancer, get approval from their oncologist, or an OB/GYN, if they are not seeing the oncologist any longer. Schedule a consult with our nutritionist to learn more about the Ideal Protein protocol and how it can be integrated into your long, healthy life.
