Postpartum Rejuvenation

Postpartum Belly Fat Treatment in Tarzana, CA

For many women the abdomen is the last area to change after pregnancy, and for some it never quite returns to what it was. That is not a failure of effort. Pregnancy alters fat distribution, abdominal muscle separation and skin elasticity, and no amount of core work addresses all three.

We start by working out which of those is actually responsible, because the right treatment for stubborn fat is completely different from the right treatment for muscle separation or loose skin.

Why the Abdomen Changes After Pregnancy

01

Redistributed fat

Hormonal shifts during and after pregnancy change where the body stores fat, often favouring the abdomen even when overall weight returns to baseline.
02

Diastasis recti

The abdominal muscles separate to make room for the growing uterus. If that gap does not close, the abdomen can still protrude despite low body fat.
03

Skin laxity

Skin stretched over many months does not always retract fully, particularly after multiple pregnancies or a larger baby.
04

Disrupted sleep

Sustained sleep deprivation in the postpartum period affects appetite-regulating hormones and makes fat loss genuinely harder.
05

Limited recovery time

Advice to avoid strenuous exercise after delivery, particularly after a caesarean, means core strength returns slowly.
06

Age and metabolism

Metabolic rate and muscle mass shift with each decade, independently of pregnancy.
SculpSure submental contouring results at Bloom OB/GYN

SculpSure for stubborn fat

Where the issue is a genuine pocket of stubborn fat rather than muscle separation, SculpSure offers non-invasive body contouring using controlled laser heating. A session takes around 25 minutes, needs no anaesthesia, and you can return to normal activity the same day.

Results appear gradually as the body clears the treated fat cells, with most patients noticing change around six weeks and fuller results by twelve weeks. It is a contouring treatment, not a weight-loss programme, and it works best when you are already near your target weight.

When the answer is not a treatment

If your abdomen protrudes because of significant muscle separation, body contouring will not fix it, and we will tell you so. That situation is better served by targeted physiotherapy, and occasionally by surgical repair.

Equally, if you are still in the early months after delivery, still breastfeeding, or planning another pregnancy soon, waiting is usually the more sensible course.

An honest starting point: at your consultation we assess fat, muscle separation and skin laxity separately, then tell you which of them is worth treating and when.
