Dysmenorrhea

How can I tell if my period pain is abnormal?

More than 50% of women experience a certain level of discomfort or cramping and approximately 10% of women are temporarily disabled by the pain associated with their menstrual cycles. Any pain that interferes with your life and that cannot be controlled with simple home remedies can be addressed by Dr. Sodhi.

What kind of treatment is available?

Dr. Sodhi offers a variety of treatment options for menstrual pain. Ayurvedic formulations and vitamin supplementation with thiamine and calcium are especially helpful in preventing menstrual cramps. As is ample exercise, hydration and sleep prior to and during your period.

Anti-inflammatory painkillers like ibuprofen, ketoprofen or naproxen are a great way to relieve painful menstrual cramping and also help to reduce amount of blood flow. Painkillers are more effective if taken before menstruation starts. Dr. Sodhi may also prescribe oral birth control to help reduce the pain and discomfort accompanying a woman’s period or recommend a different set of treatment options if she discovers an additional cause for the pain such as endometriosis, large bulky fibroids or ovarian cysts.
